MORE ABOUT THIS COURSE
WHAT YOU'LL STUDY
There are four examination units: Anatomy and Physiology; Fitness Training and Programming for Health; Sport; and Wellbeing.
The internally assessed units include many of the practical elements: Application of Fitness Testing; Coaching for Performance; and Practical Sports Performance. Practical elements are supported by class tasks, presentations and written assessments to demonstrate your knowledge of the unit. There are also career-related learning units.
HOW YOU'LL STUDY
The majority of the assessments are coursework-based and are assessed via practical performance analysis, presentations and reports. Some are completed as classroom-based examinations. All units include visits to institutions such as Manchester Institute of Health and Performance (MIHP), MCFC and some regional universities. We also host guest speakers to deliver workshops and presentations.
ASSESSMENT
Work is assessed and marked internally using a broad range of assessment methods. Marked work audits will be completed on a regular basis throughout the duration of the course to ensure consistently high levels of quality assurance.
CAREERS AND DESTINATIONS
This course particularly suits those wanting to enter employment in the sport and active leisure sector as coaches, PE teachers and leaders, as well as those who have a real passion for football. It is also ideal for those wishing to progress to higher education to study a sport-related degree such as coaching, sports development, sports science and teaching sport.
This course is linked to UA92, UCFB, and the Manchester City Community Football Coaching degree at Manchester Metropolitan University. Alongside the academic aspect of the course, you will also have access to quality coaching to enhance your football skills and playing ability.
ENHANCE THIS COURSE THROUGH FOOTBALL
If football is your passion, we have the optional opportunity for you to develop your skills alongside your studies. Students studying either one of our sport courses can join our CITC Football Pathway, our specialist football training and development programme which is delivered by our partners City in the Community (CITC).
Please note that there are limited places on the CITC Pathway, so we are unable to offer all Sport students this opportunity. Priority will be given to students meeting the Priority Application deadline. Predicted grades, school references and performance at interview will all be taken into account when offering places on this pathway.
