This course will provide you with a solid foundation in accounting, showing you how money works inside organisations.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

You must achieve a minimum of five GCSEs or equivalent qualifications at grades 4–9. These must include English Language and other supporting subjects. You also need a grade 3 or above in Maths, English Literature and Science.

Extra entry requirements: Need a Grade 4 in Maths.

You'll learn how to interpret, analyse, and evaluate financial data responsibly to make smart organisational decisions using real-world case studies and business scenarios. The core topics:

  • Financial performance: Understanding and structuring statements of financial position and performance.
  • Cash flow management: Analysing summarised cash flow information to evaluate business liquidity.
  • Financial ratios: Calculating and interpreting key indicators like profitability and efficiency.
  • Accounting principles: Applying core concepts like accruals, prudence, materiality, and consistency to financial reports.
  • Ethics and risk governance: Evaluating ethical and risk considerations linked to communicating financial info.
  • Trend analysis: Comparing financial performance and identifying business trends.

HOW YOU'LL STUDY

You will have access to guest speakers, and visit industry leading businesses in the Manchester area and beyond. A mix of internal and external assessments.

This course leads to a wide range of post-18 pathways: higher education, employment or apprenticeships. It’s been developed alongside industry standards, preparing you for analytical and operational roles across multiple sectors, e.g. Junior Accountant, Finance Assistant, and Junior Financial Analyst.
