Connell students take part in Gorton & Denton by-election hustings

Three Connell students were invited by the Manchester Evening News (MEN) to take part in a hustings for the Gorton & Denton by-election.
The students were asked to submit questions for the candidates covering a range of policy issues such as immigration, health, and human rights. This will be the first election that our 18-year-old students will be able to vote in, and this visit provided a crucial insight into the offerings of the major political parties.
The students left the hustings with a new insight into where the parties stand on major issues and feel confident going into the voting booth for the first time.
After the event, the students were able to have a chat with the Green Party candidate, Hannah Spencer, where they discussed the importance of young people being involved in politics.
The hustings took place at the MEN offices in Chadderton on Thursday 12 February. Thank you to all at the MEN for inviting us!
