Adriana lives in Ardwick and came to Connell from Dean Trust Ardwick. She studied the triple BTEC Applied Science course and got D* D* D*. 

Adriana has accepted a place at the University of Lancashire to study (BVMS) Veterinary Medicine & Surgery (foundation entry).

After completing her six years of study, Adriana is planning to work as a veterinary surgeon in a clinic in the UK for at least two years before travelling to places such as Australia where she could work with more exotic animals. 

Adriana was the Head of the Student Council and also volunteered for many opportunities, such as helping out as an ambassador at open events, interview evenings, and supporting the college Eid celebration. She also took part in a variety of enrichment classes: driving theory lessons, volleyball and book club. 

Adriana reflects on her time at Connell: “Although my time at Connell has been relatively short, I have truly cherished every moment of the experience. One of the things that I will miss the most is the strong sense of community and the dedicated teachers who supported me every step of the way, helping me achieve my goals. 

“I will also miss the friendships I formed during my time here, as when I first joined Connell I didn't know anyone and was quite anxious about making friends. The welcoming environment made it easy to connect with others and create lasting relationships. 

“My favourite memories at Connell are from volunteering at open events where I had the opportunity to share my experiences and offer insight to prospective students. 

“Lastly, I would definitely recommend Connell to others because of the supportive atmosphere, incredible teaching staff, and the sense of belonging that you feel as part of the college community. My time at Connell has had a lasting impression on me, and I am thankful for all the memories and lessons that I have learnt throughout my journey.”

Diana lives in Abbey Hey and came to Connell from Wright Robinson College which is based in Gorton. She studied the triple BTEC Applied Science course and got D*D*D. 

Diana has accepted a place at the University of Huddersfield to study BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult). When she graduates, she’d like to work in the NHS and become a nurse.

Diana has chosen this career path as she likes helping people, and she’s surrounded by people at home in medical and caring professions, including her mum who’s also a nurse. She would also like to travel abroad at some point too, potentially to live and work.

Commenting on her work experience, Diana said: “When I did work experience in a care home and a dental practice, I felt the people who worked there were really happy and loved their jobs. I find the science behind it really interesting!”

Diana served on the Student Council as the vice leader. She attended meetings, and helped to organise key college events such as Eid and Culture Day. 

On her Student Council experience, she said: “I joined the Student Council because I wanted to help my fellow students by hearing their issues in order to relay them to college management to get them resolved. I wanted to change college for the better. It gave me really good opportunities, such as meeting the Mayor Andy Burnham.”

Diana reflects on her sixth form experience: “I will miss the teachers here and the support they’ve given me. I’ve felt like part of a big family, supported by friends and teachers.

"I would recommend Connell and say it is one big community of amazing people who are really nice and want to help you and support you no matter what.

“What I liked about Connell before I joined was the honesty of the staff. They tell you if this is the right place for you or not - they guide and support you based on what’s best for your career and next steps plans. 

“All the teachers are very supportive and make sure you get the final grade you need.”

Zia lives in Longsight and came to Connell from Dean Trust Ardwick. He achieved a D in BTEC Computing, a C in A Level Business and a C in A Level Sociology.

Zia is doing a degree apprenticeship with Barclays PLC as a Technology Analyst. He also had an offer to study Digital Technology Solutions at Manchester Metropolitan University, but prefers to go down the degree apprenticeship route. When he completes his apprenticeship, he’d like to continue in the tech industry, and progress into a leadership role.

Zia was a member of the Student Council and an ambassador. He volunteered at open events and took great pleasure in showing prospective students around and telling them what life was like at Connell.

Zia reflects on his sixth form experience: “I enjoyed my time at Connell because of the passion I developed for the subjects I studied. Certain topics in Sociology ignited thoughts and ideas in my mind, Computing being the career I’m going into, and Business being a subject I continued from GCSE into A Level. All three subjects have helped me develop into the person I am today and enabled me to get onto my degree apprenticeship.”

Rhian Brady, Teacher of Sociology, said: “Throughout his time at Connell, Zia has been a vibrant and charismatic presence, effortlessly brightening the college with his drive and positivity. His willingness to participate in various activities was clear, as he threw himself into college life with admirable energy. He leaves us not only as a highly accomplished student, but as a genuinely memorable individual who will thrive in his next steps.”

Mirab lives in Longsight and came to Connell from Manchester Academy High School, Moss Side. She took all A Levels and achieved an A* in Psychology, an A in Biology, and an A in Chemistry.

Mirab has accepted a place to study BDS Dentistry at the Queen Mary University of London. After graduating from Dental School, she’d like to specialise in either oral surgery or prosthodontics [diagnosing, treating, and restoring oral function and aesthetics]. She plans to attend many dental electives throughout her career, and to see patients globally and learn about their experiences with oral health.

Mirab’s most valuable work experience was shadowing dentists at dental clinics, seeing patients walk in anxious and leave much more relieved has given her the motivation to work towards making the same impact in patients lives in the future. She also published a paper on the link between periodontal and cardiovascular disease, where she used statistical analysis learnt from psychology research and her biological knowledge of human systems. She also volunteered at open events demonstrating chemistry practical skills for younger students.

Mirab reflects on her sixth form experience: “My time at Connell was very bright and cheerful, the sense of community at Connell is extremely admirable. The staff, peers and immense opportunities at Connell are all things that made the journey a lot more easier and fun! I got to meet and learn from so many respectable people and all the help offered by my teachers at every point of my journey has had a big hand in how far I’ve made it. 
The thing I’ll miss the most about Connell is the sense of friendliness it had to offer, everyone at college presents themselves with warmth and amiability which was very valued by me.”

Catherine Radcliffe, Teacher of Chemistry, said: “What an academic heroine this young woman is. She was so unbelievably self-motivated and worked so far ahead making the most incredible notes to support her own understanding of the curriculum. She supported her peers both in and out of the classroom to excel. She is going to excel in anything she puts her mind to.”

Sarah lives in Gorton and came to Connell from Cedar Mount Academy (in Gorton). She studied A Levels and achieved an A in Sociology, a B in Law, and a B in Psychology. 

Sarah has accepted an offer to study BSocSc International Relations and Politics at the University of Manchester. After graduating, she would like to work as a human rights barrister at an organisation such as UNICEF, United Nations or the European Parliament. She wants to live in Europe, specifically in Italy or Austria, or in the Middle East in Qatar or Oman.

Sarah did some work experience with JMW Solicitors and took part in a lot of volunteering with the charities, Youth Leads, Young Manchester and MylifeMySay. In these roles, she cohosted events, wrote magazine articles and engaged in a range of social action activities. She also took part in college enrichment classes, such as debate club and creative activities in the Hive.

Sarah reflects on her time at college: “I have really enjoyed my time at Connell because of the amount of people I’ve met and got to know. The friendships and healthy relationships I have with staff members have made the college environment so much more inclusive, friendly and warm than I initially expected when I joined. Teachers are so happy to help us when we ask and give us the push we need to get through our final exams, making my experience more memorable.” 

Akeela Shan, Teacher of Psychology, said: “Sarah always brought a vibrant energy to the classroom. She is a bubbly student who is naturally curious and never hesitates to ask insightful questions that drive discussions forward. Sarah's inquisitive ways and engaging personality is balanced by her hard-working nature and positive work ethic. Whether tackling complex assignments or collaborating with peers, she approached every academic challenge with enthusiasm and determination.”

Paula lives in Openshaw and came to Connell from Trinity CoE High School in Hulme. She studied A Levels and achieved a B in Sociology, a C in Psychology, and a C in English Literature. 

Paula has accepted a place at the University of Manchester to study (BNurs) Adult Nursing. After graduating, Paula would like to do a Masters in Midwifery and become a Midwife, but doesn’t want to specialise too early and would rather learn about all aspects of nursing.

Paula did some voluntary work in the White Rose charity shop in the Arndale Centre. And played badminton for her college enrichment class. She was also an ambassador helping out at open events and was a member of the Student Council. 

Paula reflects on her college experience: “I have really enjoyed my time at Connell because of the friends I've made along the way, the teachers helping me through my courses, and the fantastic environment - the culture, the modern buildings.” 

Akeela Shan, Teacher of Psychology, said: “Paula is a quietly confident, conscientious student, who consistently approached her studies with a focused and diligent mindset. Paula's exceptional work ethic is reflected in the meticulous care she put into every essay, quietly setting a high standard for academic excellence. Paula is an independent and responsible young woman, who took on challenges with a calm determination that ensured steady success.”

Ore lives in Stockport and came to Connell from Trinity CoE High School in Hulme. She studied Triple BTEC Health and Social Care and achieved D*D*D. 

Ore has accepted an offer from the University of Salford to study BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing. 

After graduating, she’d like to be an Adult Nurse in the NHS. She likes caring for people and the science behind it. And she’d like to explore working in some different health specialities, with surgery being a highlight.

Ore did some work experience at a pharmacy and at North Manchester General Hospital, working in the antenatal unit. She was also an ambassador helping out at open events and was a member of the Student Council. 

Ore reflects on her time at Connell: “I like how the teachers are focussed on doing everything they can to help us. As a small college, we got more one-to-one time. I like how they teach you and give you time to work alone, and they answer any questions that you might have during class. Connell is a fun college, I really enjoyed my time here.” 

Gemma Neild, Teacher of Health and Social Care, said: “Ore worked hard in Health and Social Care and was a mature and confident student. She was always keen to know more and go the extra mile to make sure her work was the best it could be.”

Ressala lives in Higher Blackley and came to Connell from Co-op Academy Manchester in Blackley. She studied Triple BTEC Health and Social Care and is hoping to get DDM. 

Ressala enjoyed the course and liked how coursework and exams were scattered throughout the two years, not just a load of exams at the end. She was able to take her time doing her coursework and work to deadlines.

Ressala has accepted a place at the University of Salford to study BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing. She would like to specialise in Midwifery after completing her degree and become a Midwife in the NHS. Her passion for Midwifery comes from watching the midwives support her mum – despite her not speaking great English – when she was pregnant with her brother.

Ressala did some work experience placements. One week in a local hospital in the postnatal ward with midwives where she held babies. And two weeks helping out in a local primary school that she used to attend. Her old teachers really enjoyed her returning to help out and teach with them and the students wanted to know what the teachers were like when she was younger! She was also an ambassador helping out at college open events. 

Ressala reflects on her time at college: “The staff are so friendly and eager to help us be the best that we can be. They support us in any way they can. I have recommended Connell to loads of people and encouraged them to apply here. Staff have been really encouraging in helping us find things to do, work placements, get experience, etc. I’ll really miss Connell.” 

Gemma Neild, Teacher of Health and Social Care, said: “Ressala was a hard working and conscientious student in Health and Social Care. She was an incredible source of support to her peers, always had a smile on her face and was so passionate about becoming a great Health and Social Care practitioner.”

Evie lives in Blackley and came to Connell from Co-op Academy North Manchester in Blackley. She studied all A Levels and achieved a B in English Language, a B in English Literature and a B in Psychology. 

Evie has accepted a place at the University of Leeds to study BA English Literature and Creative Writing. She would like to be a playwright when she graduates as it’s her way of merging her academic interests and hobbies together, being a big theatre and drama lover. 

Evie was an ambassador and so volunteered helping out at interview evenings which she did to bridge the gap and be a voice between students and teachers. As a social person, she knew she’d be good at it.

She explains: “I have learned how important a role it is - the lanyard represents being a leader. I did tours at the events which I enjoyed explaining the college to new potential students and answering their questions.”

Evie also attended the reading club enrichment and reflects on her time at college: “I have really enjoyed Connell because of the community. My favourite memory was performing on stage at the Sheffield Theatre on an English Literature trip. I would recommend Connell because it is not as daunting as other colleges, it is a tight knit community and a comfortable environment.” 

Rhiannon Glover, Teacher of English, said: “Evie is a cheerful, hard-working and enthusiastic student who took a particular interest in studying and performing drama. She even volunteered to take the part of Blanche at the Sheffield Crucible Theatre when we went there for a workshop on A Streetcar Named Desire and gave a brilliant, convincing performance.  Her determination and resilience led to her making really excellent progress in both English Literature and English Language and she was always a supportive and reliable class member.”

Maria lives in Collyhurst and came to Connell from Manchester Communication Academy in Harpurhey. She studied A Levels in Psychology, Sociology and English Language.

Maria has accepted a place to study BA (Hons) Childhood & Youth and Education at Liverpool Hope University. After graduating, she’d like to be a Primary School teacher in Manchester. 

Maria has completed paid work experience with fast food outlets, McDonald’s and Nandos. 

Maria reflects on her time at college: “The thing I will miss most about my time at Connell is the support from the teachers. There are lots of opportunities – staff throw a lot of ideas and things to get involved in – and it’s up to you to take part in them.” 

Rhiannon Glover, Teacher of English, said: “Maria was a delight to teach. She has a strong personality and other students and I admired her warmth, honesty and individuality. Her brilliant sense of style was obvious to see in her fashion choices as well as in her linguistic choices in both essays and creative writing. I am very proud of the way she 'locked in' in her second year of A Level English Language, achieving excellent marks in her coursework and performing really well in revision and timed practice.”

Dylan lives in Failsworth and came to Connell from Co-op Academy Failsworth. He studied  Biology A Level, Physics A Level and Applied Psychology BTEC.

Dylan has accepted a place to study BSc (Hons) Marine Biology and Oceanography at Bangor University. This has been his passion since he was a child to study the sea, tides and marine habitats. After graduating, he‘d like to work in a Marine Biology or Oceanography role, and to live in Australia where they have a lot of marine life. He’d love to work in conservation and help to prevent further damage to the Great Barrier Reef before it becomes irreversibly damaged.

Dylan reflects on his time at college: “One of my favourite things about my time at Connell was visiting Jodrell Bank Observatory during a Physics class trip. We saw things in space through the large telescope. I also enjoyed helping out at open events. It was great to help people who want to come here and help them decide what they want to do. I helped in the subject team with Biology. I would recommend Connell because the curriculum is great. The timetable gives you free time to do your own learning and revision. My favourite subject is Biology as I love learning about life and ecosystems.” 

Dwayne Maynard, Teacher of Biology, said: “Dylan is an amazing young man. Hardworking, committed and resilient. He is polite and respectful and just a great person to sit and have a chat about the world with. He will be an asset to any future university and workplace.”

Saim lives in Levenshulme and came to Connell from Burnage Academy for Boys. He studied A Level Law, A Level Sociology and BTEC Computing.

Saim has accepted a conditional offer to study BSc (Hons) Games Design at Manchester Metropolitan University. After graduating, he’d like to get a job as a Games Designer, ideally in the UK, but if needed, he’d travel abroad for the right job.

Saim did some paid work as a Warehouse Assistant and he did the Driving Theory enrichment class.

Saim reflects on his sixth form experience: “I have really enjoyed my time at Connell because all of my teachers’ advice has provided a good framework to improve myself. I will really miss the support from my teachers and all of their great guidance.”

Mark Chittle, Teacher of Computing, said: “Saim is a diligent, hardworking student who was keen to make sure he understood what he was meant to do to complete his work to the best of his ability. This continued work ethic has helped him secure a good grade in BTEC Computing and hopefully help him to succeed in the future.”

Timileyin lives in Moston and came to Connell from The East Manchester Academy in Beswick. He achieved a DD in Double BTEC Business and an M in BTEC Computing. 

Timileyin has accepted a place at the University of East London to study BSc (Hons) Computer Science (Web and Mobile Technologies).

Timileyin did some paid work for Outlier AI, helping to train the next generation of AI. He also took part in the basketball enrichment class.

Timileyin reflects on his time at college: “The thing I will miss most about my time at Connell will be my computing teacher, Mark. He's a great teacher, he pushes you to work really hard, but he’s also really easy to understand.”

Mark Chittle, Teacher of Computing, said: “Timileyin's work ethic improved for Year 13 which enabled him to secure a good grade in BTEC computing over the two years of study.”

Thomas lives in Moston and came to Connell from Co-op Academy North Manchester in Blackley. He achieved an A in A Level Law, a B in A Level History, and an A in Criminology (Applied General).

Thomas has accepted a place at the University of Manchester to study LLB Law. After graduating, he’d like to become a Barrister or a Solicitor.

Thomas took part in some enrichment classes: basketball, arts and crafts club, and the board game club.

Thomas reflects on his time in sixth form: “I have enjoyed my time at Connell because they offered me great support to get onto a Law degree. My Law A Level class was a great course for me to develop my legal education. And my Criminology and History classes have provided me with great resources to understand and put my analysis skills into practice.”

Liam Sharp, Teacher of Law, said: “Tom was an absolute star in A Level law throughout his two years at Connell. He was incredibly supportive to his peers, including spending time after college to tutor his classmates with topics they struggled with. Tom strived for excellence in every lesson and held himself to a high standard.”

Sania lives in Droylsden and came to Connell from Fairfield High School for Girls in Droylsden. She studied all A Levels and achieved a B in Law, a B in Sociology, and a C in Psychology.

Sania has accepted a place to study BSc Planning and Real Estate at the University of Manchester. 

Sania was a member of the Student Council and an Ambassador, helping out at college open events. She undertook work experience with the legal team at Manchester City Football Club when in Year 12. It was a week-long, paid and she was one of two chosen to take part out of 72 that applied. Sania has also done some voluntary work in some charity shops, including the White Rose one in the Arndale Centre and at a British Heart Foundation one locally. 

Sania reflects on her time in college: “I have really enjoyed my time at Connell because I was told to say yes to as many opportunities as possible. I was reserved before college and I didn’t say yes, so I took the college mantra on board of always saying yes, and now I’m really outgoing! I’ll miss a lot of my teachers and friends. The connections with teachers is a lot deeper, more friendly, and a lot less formal than in school. It’s a very welcoming and  open environment.”

Liam Sharp, Teacher of Law, said: “Sania has been a standout student in A Level Law. She had such a passion for a variety of different areas of law and held herself to a considerably high standard. She was incredibly confident in her knowledge and was a great help during outreach events for the course.”

Sabina lives in Oldham and came to Connell from Co-op Academy North Manchester in Blackley. She studied A Level Media Studies, A Level History, and BTEC Applied Psychology. 

Sabina has accepted a place at UA92 to study Sports Media and Communications Accelerated BA (Hons).

Sabina was an Ambassador and helped out at college open events, including: the Macmillan Coffee Morning, Time to Talk Day, Culture Days, and Back History Month. She also did some paid work helping to promote Our Pass (membership scheme for young people who live in Greater Manchester to get free bus travel and other discounts) in Oldham to increase the uptake and for a local sweet manufacturer, Bitter Sweet. 

Sabina reflects on her time at sixth form: “My favourite memory about my time at Connell is being given lots of opportunities to volunteer. I picked up lots of different experiences by saying yes to the opportunities and as a result, I’ve grown as a person.”

Kath Horwill, Teacher of History, said: “From the start of Year 12, Sabina was always keen to go the extra mile in History and wanted recommendations for wider reading that would extend her understanding of what we were learning in class. Demonstrating a real passion and curiosity for History as well as the willingness to seek and act on feedback, Sabina has been an excellent and hardworking student who is determined to succeed.”

Jess lives in Gorton and came to Connell from Wright Robinson College in Abbey Hey, Gorton. She studied Triple BTEC Sport and Exercise Science and achieved D*D*D. 

Jess has accepted a place at UA92 to study BA (Hons) Sports Management. After university, Jess wants to set up a business to provide sports sessions – in school and outside of school – for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Jess volunteered by doing some refereeing at the City Football Academy, an opportunity provided through college. She also did some external volunteering, coaching an under-9s boys’ football team, and she also helps out at a local primary school when they need it, supporting events such as school trips, sports days, fun days, and talent show judging. 

Jess reflects on her time at college: “When starting at Connell, I was unsure whether or not I would enjoy my time there due to the drastic change from school, but after a few months, I realised that it was so much better than school - the teachers were nicer, the classes were enjoyable, and my fellow students were fun. This made my time at Connell enjoyable and two years I’ll never forget. 

“In addition to the educational side of Connell, the opportunity to play for City in the Community (CITC) alongside my education is another opportunity which I believe sets the college above many others. Having the opportunity to train two times a week as well as play a game once a week in a competitive league is an unbelievable experience. Not only is the football itself amazing, but the coaches and managers are also amazing. They put their all into improving players as well as making an enjoyable environment. 

“I would recommend Connell to other people whether it be family or friends. This is because I believe the environment created at Connell is an environment in which I believe students will excel in - academically and socially.”

Emily Stocks, Football Coach, said: “Jess has been a fantastic asset to the CITC Women's Team over the last two years. Her constant drive to develop her understanding of the game has been a pleasure to work with. Jess was inducted into the first ever Leadership Committee for the course, to which her ability to lead and drive her team shone through! Her hard work and dedication, both on and off the pitch, gives me no doubt that Jess will succeed in her next chapter.”

Ammar lives in Cheetham Hill and came to Connell from Burnage Academy for Boys. He studied A Levels in Chemistry, Biology and Psychology.

Ammar has accepted a place at the University of Salford to study BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering with a foundation year. After graduating, he’d like to be an Engineering  Project Manager in either building infrastructure, buildings, or making trains. He will probably stay in the UK but at some point he’d like to experience working in the Middle East.

Ammar attended football and badminton enrichment at college. And reflecting on his sixth form experience, Ammar said: “I will miss the students and the teachers. The teachers are very kind and very good at their job; they make lessons interesting and they’re always on hand to provide help when required. Very helpful!  At Connell, there are good people everywhere.”

Christabell lives in Oldham and came to Connell from Waterhead Academy in Lees, Oldham. She studied A Levels in Law, Sociology and Psychology. 

Christabell has accepted a place at Nottingham Trent University to study Law LLB (Hons). After graduating she hopes to either work as a Lawyer, ideally in international law for a magic circle law firm, or be a diplomat working for an organisation such as NATO or the United Nations. She’d like to travel around the world for her job but wants to live in England.

Christabell volunteered in her lessons and helped her teachers and took part in cooking enrichment classes.

Christabell reflects on her time at college: “Connell pushed me to be more thoughtful and independent while still reminding me not to take everything too seriously. Connell definitely helped me grow in more ways than one. My favourite memory about my time at Connell was culture day because it was beautiful to see the different cultures in college and learn about them whilst sharing a communal joy of celebration.” 

She continues: “The thing I’ll miss most about my time at Connell is the sense of community. How everyone got along together and having teachers that understand and support you, it really was special. I’d definitely recommend my younger sister attend Connell too, because I know she has a community where she would feel supported and make lifelong memories whilst gaining the tools and opportunities to achieve success.”

Akeela Shan, Teacher of Psychology, said: “Christabell started Year 13 Psychology completely deflated and lacking in motivation, but she completely turned things around. By actively taking control of her learning and finding real enjoyment in Psychology, she built up her confidence and focused on doing well. Her positive attitude and hard work completely transformed her self-doubt into a strong determination to succeed. Christabell has been a credit and inspiration for all students!”

Lucy lives in Stockport and came to Connell from Stockport Grammar School. She studied Triple BTEC Sports and got D*D*D. 

Lucy has accepted a place on a football scholarship at Southwest Tennessee Community College in the United States. After university, Lucy is unsure of her exact career path but it will definitely be something in the sports industry.  

Lucy volunteered by doing some refereeing and coaching at the City Football Academy through the City in the Community football programme.

Lucy reflects on her sixth form experience: “Connell has been the two best and most impactful years of my life. My favourite memory was playing in the CEFA Cup Final with all my friends and going on the Manchester City women’s team bus. I will miss the people the most, the teachers, coaches and students. I made friends for life and had some once in a lifetime experiences. Connell helped set me up for the future and gave me the opportunity to go play football in America.”

Nick Power, Teacher of Sport and Exercise Science, said: “Lucy was a talented student both academically and as an athlete. Lucy used her time at college to experience all that was on offer including volunteering with Manchester City Football club, competing in the GB talent ID programme and travelling to America to experience scholarship life. Lucy has now decided to go to America on scholarship to study and be part of the Southwest Tennessee Community College football programme.”

Tarek lives in Ancoats and came to Connell from the International School of Helsingborg. He studied A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Psychology and achieved BBB.

Tarek has accepted a place at Cardiff University to study (BEng) Engineering with a Foundation Year.

Tarek volunteered at open events and took part in MMA and volleyball enrichment classes. 

Tarek reflects on his time at college: “I would recommend Connell to anyone that is interested due to how supportive and positive the staff are. My experience doing my A Levels there was a really good one, and would have been much more difficult if I wasn’t at Connell.”

Catherine Radcliffe, Teacher of Chemistry, said: “Tarek is an incredibly motivated and sincere young man. He is tenacious and would not let any challenge beat him, his grades were earned through determination, an ability to ask for help and the support of those around him. He should be extremely proud of himself.”

Ana lives in Fallowfield and came to Connell from Manchester Academy which is based in Moss Side. She studied the triple BTEC Business course got D*DD. 

Ana has accepted a place at Manchester Metropolitan University to study the law degree, LLB (Hons). When she graduates, she’d like to work in the legal industry, potentially as a lawyer.

Ana has done some work experience at PwC and completed the Co-op Young Business Leaders programme, which included some work experience at Co-op HQ.

Ana reflects on her sixth form experience: “I have really enjoyed my time at college, thanks to the amazing support from my teachers and other staff. They really all do their best to help every student achieve their goals and be successful.

“The things I’ll miss most about college are the friendly environment and the friendships. I will definitely recommend Connell to my younger brother because of the many opportunities you get presented with here. For example, one of the most important and interesting opportunities I got as a Connell student was the CYBL programme, which has really helped me to improve so many skills for my future career as well as strengthen my CV.”

Nina Macdonald, Business teacher, said: “Ana has been consistent in setting high standards and motivating herself to achieve her full potential. She is mature and conscientious, which makes her a great role model for her peers, who hold her in high regard as do her teachers.” 

Ayesha lives in Gorton and came to Connell from Cedar Mount Academy, Gorton. She studied the triple BTEC Business course and got D*D*D.

Ayesha has accepted a place at Manchester Metropolitan University to study BA (Hons)
International Business Management. When she graduates, she’d like to work in a management role for an international business. 

Ayesha has done some work experience at PwC and completed the Co-op Young Business Leaders programme, which included some work experience at Co-op HQ. And she's taken part in public speaking and cooking enrichment classes.

Ayesha reflects on her time at college: “I have really enjoyed it and I really appreciate the helpful support. Teachers are always present to support you and ensure you do the best at every point. I had the best time at Connell because everyone is kind and displays Co-op values. I would 100 percent recommend to everyone who is 16 years old to come and study at Connell to have the best time of their life. ”

Daniel Bellis, Business teacher, said: “It truly has been a pleasure teaching Ayesha these past two years. I don’t doubt that she will find success, as she has a drive and determination that will set her apart from many of her peers. Throughout her time at Connell, she has consistently been an example to other students and she should be exceptionally proud of all of her hardwork.”

Ben lives in Stockport and came to Connell from Dean Trust Ardwick. He studied Biology, Chemistry and Physics A Levels and got is A*AA.

Ben has accepted a place at the University of St Andrews School of Medicine. Ben is Canadian and the university has links to Canada where he’ll be able to do a placement during his sixth year. He’d like to become an ophthalmologist and potentially go back to Canada to practice upon graduation. 

Ben has volunteered at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, helping patients find their way around the hospital to their appointments. He’s also helped out at college interview evenings and open days. He has been a member of Manchester Council’s Student Board where he’s attended bimonthly meetings to discuss a range of issues including safety, transport and becoming a UNICEF Child Friendly City. Ben also found time to take part in volleyball and badminton enrichment classes.

Ben, on his time at Connell, said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at college. My advice to 16 year olds joining is preparing before a class makes them and revision ten times easier. I’d definitely recommend Connell as a fun place to learn, get offered exciting opportunities to take part in and achieve your goals.”

Clare Lengé, Director of Curriculum for Science, said: “Ben is a fantastic student who is extremely supportive of others in his class. He has tutored other Year 13s in Biology throughout the year and guided Year 12s on how to approach the subject and get the most out of their time at Connell. Ben is very dedicated to his studies and shows respect to all he meets, thriving in all aspects of life.”

Daisy lives in Droylsden and came to Connell from Fairfield High School for Girls. She studied Biology, Psychology and Statistics A Levels. 

Daisy has accepted a place at the University of Chester to study Biology BSc (Hons). She would like to explore a career as a Dietician or Biomedical Scientist when she graduates. 

Daisy has taken part in online work experience as an Allied Health Professional via the Allied Healthcare Mentor programme. She’s also taken part in cooking and knitting enrichment classes.

Daisy reflects on her time at college: “I’ve enjoyed Connell because I’ve been able to meet new people, gain new experiences and take part in different opportunities. I’ve enjoyed many aspects of my courses, whilst having the support and challenge from my teachers. Some of my favourite memories are trips such as to Chester Zoo and events such as Culture Day.”

Lee Hughes, Head of Mathematics and Statistics, said: “Daisy has been an exemplary A Level Statistics student, consistently demonstrating a strong grasp of complex concepts and their practical application. She has displayed a mature and dedicated approach to her studies, coupled with a naturally polite and cheerful disposition, which has made her a valued presence in the classroom. 

“Daisy has also shown commendable initiative in promptly seeking assistance when needed, a trait that has undoubtedly contributed to her progress. It has been a pleasure to witness her go from strength to strength over the two years she has been with us and I wish her every success in the future.”

Emmanuel lives in Blackley and came to Connell from Co-op Academy Manchester. He studied the triple BTEC Applied Science course and got DDD. 

Emmanuel has accepted a place at the University of Lancashire (formerly UCLAN) to study BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science.

Emmanuel took part in lots of enrichment classes, including Basketball, Esports, Football and Volleyball.

Reflecting on college life, Emmanuel said: “I really enjoyed my time at Connell because it was calming, comfortable, and it passed by very quickly due to the amount of fun I had!” 

Jonathan Birkett, Physics teacher, said: “Emmanuel is a hardworking and tenacious student. He takes great pride in his work and always wants to get the highest grades possible. Any time he gets a setback, he bounces back putting in maximum effort to get there. He is well liked by his peers and is an all round great student.”

Givna lives in Levenshulme and came to Connell from Manchester Academy, which is based in Moss Side. She studied BTEC Computing, and A Levels in Psychology, and Statistics.

Givna has accepted a place at Manchester Metropolitan University to study BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering. When she graduates, she’d like to work in electronics designing smartphone circuits and would like to live in London for a bit and then move to America.

Givna volunteered at college events and was also on the Student Council, where she  worked as part of a team to share ideas to help improve college. She also took part in badminton and lego enrichment classes. 

Givna describes her time at college: “Coming to Connell was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I have made countless memories with my friends and met amazing people. The most interesting thing about Connell are the events, such as the careers ones, the Iftar, and Culture Day. These events make Connell unique, these moments are unforgettable. Another thing I like are the rewards given to students for different things. I appreciate it when my hard work is noticed - it makes me happy!”

Stuart Callaghan, Vice Principal (Curriculum), said: “Givna is an excellent Psychology student. She always participates fully in lesson activities and she uses teacher advice and guidance to improve and develop her work. She is positive, hard-working and mature, all of which make her a pleasure to teach.”

Jess lives in Oldham and came to Connell from Co-op Academy Failsworth. She studied the triple BTEC Applied Science course and got DDD.

Jess has accepted a place at the University of Greater Manchester (formerly University of  Bolton) to study BSc (Hons) Motorsport Technology. When she graduates, she’d like to be a trackside mechanic working for Ferrari in Italy. 

Jess has volunteered working at a homeless hostel’s cafe and charity shop.

On her time at college, Jess said: “The thing I’ll miss the most is the relationships I have built with teachers and classmates. I get on really well with all my teachers and some of them feel like friends.

“I would recommend Connell to a Year 11 or a sibling because I have really enjoyed it here and it’s in a good area too. The best thing is you get loads of support which is different in comparison to other colleges. The course wasn’t easy, but you get a detailed explanation and you’re taught how to cope with difficulties.”

Jonathan Birkett, Physics teacher, said: “Jess is a very determined, hard-working and caring person. She always asks lots of questions and has a strong desire to achieve as highly as she possibly can, taking great pride in her work. She also offers lots of support to her peers, and visibly enjoys her subjects.”

Mia lives in Failsworth and came to Connell from Co-op Academy Failsworth. She studied the triple BTEC Sport and Exercise Science course and got D*D*D*. 

Mia has accepted a place at Manchester Metropolitan University to study BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science. 

Mia wanted to stay local and when she graduates she wants to be a PE Teacher - something she’s always wanted to be since a young age. She currently coaches primary school aged children in a range of different sports, so becoming a teacher is the next natural step, and this experience has cemented her love for this profession more.

Alongside her work experience coaching, Mia has participated in volleyball enrichment classes whilst at Connell - she loves sport!

Mia reflects on her time at college: “The teachers here make us feel so welcomed and we have such a good relationship with them. The course is a great experience too. If you are indecisive, my course allows you to have an insight into different career areas and different units for the future. I would recommend Connell to someone because there are loads of good opportunities to learn about different jobs, and lots of trips to universities to help you make a decision about your future.”

Nick Power, Curriculum Lead for Sport, said: “Mia truly desired the highest possible grade, driven by her ambition for the sports industry. Her work ethic remained unwavering throughout her two years of college. Mia's open-minded approach led her to expand her skills through volunteering, gaining experience in both sports coaching and sports rehabilitation. She then applied these skills to coaching in primary schools before pursuing university studies.”

Rahimat lives in Blackley and came to Connell from Co-op Academy North Manchester, which is also in Blackley. She studied the triple BTEC Business course and got DDD.

Rahimat has accepted a place at the University of Salford to study BSc (Hons) Business Management with Marketing. After university/apprenticeship, Rahimat would like to work in project management, marketing or product development in the retail or beauty sector. She may stay in Manchester or go elsewhere for work such as London or Scotland. 

Rahimat has been volunteering in a charity shop in Harpurhey during her studies to get customer service and retail experience.

Reflecting on her college experience, Rahimat said: “My favourite memory about my time at Connell is the Co-op Young Business Leaders event. It helped me decide what career I wanted to go into, meet people from industry, and it elevated my experience of college as a whole.” 

Lauren Fell, Curriculum Lead of Media Studies, said: “Rahimat is a caring student who does a lot of additional work outside of college. She is always happy to help others. Best of luck for the future!”

Rahma lives in Cheetham Hill and came to Connell from Abraham Moss Community School, Crumpsall. She studied the triple BTEC Business course and got DDD.

Rahma has accepted a place at Manchester Metropolitan University to study BA (Hons) Business Management. After university/apprenticeship, she would like to work as a Social Media Manager. 

Rahma has volunteered at clothing brand Hayaa The Label LTD and at her local mosque. She has also taken part in the Co-op Young Business Leaders programme.

Describing her college experience, Rahma said: “I have really enjoyed my time at Connell, thanks to the amazing support from staff. They really all go the extra mile to help every student reach their goals. 

“My favourite memory is Culture Day. It was a memorable and fantastic way to connect with other students, celebrating our diverse backgrounds. One thing I’m going to miss is the close friendships I’ve formed during my time here as there was a family atmosphere. I’d absolutely recommend Connell to friends and family as the college truly lives its values and provides the best experiences.”

Adam Woodley, Director of Curriculum and Business teacher, said: “Rahma sets high standards for herself and this is a key reason for her achieving success. In addition to her excellent academic achievements, she has successfully navigated the Co-op Young Business Leaders programme. She leaves college with high grades and with prolonged work experience with a well recognised business.”

Success lives in Failsworth and came to Connell from Co-op Academy Failsworth. She studied the triple BTEC Sport and Exercise Science course and got D*D*D. 

Success has accepted a place at Manchester Metropolitan University to study BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science. After university she would like to work as a PE teacher. 

Success took part in volleyball and basketball enrichment classes.

Describing her time at college, Success said: “The most interesting thing I learnt about was the things that motivate people and how they react when they face a challenge. The thing I will miss most is spending lunch time with my friends.”

Nick Power, Curriculum Lead for Sport, said: “Driven by a vast knowledge of different sports, Success excelled at applying real-world context to her assignments. As a keen basketball player, she actively pursued volunteering opportunities, strategically building her network within the sports industry. Success consistently demonstrated dedication and motivation across all aspects of the course and was a valued member of the class.”

Wahab lives in Levenshulme and came to Connell from MEA Central which is also based in Levenshulme. He studied Maths, Physics and Chemistry A Levels and he’s accepted a place to study BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering at Manchester Metropolitan University. 

During his time at Connell, Wahab has been an Ambassador and an active member of the Student Council. He describes his role: “It’s important to have a Student Council, because we are the representative of the students and want to help make changes to make the college better.”

Wahab’s Physics teacher recommended he join the Flight Crowd engineering project - an educational not-for-profit air mobility community that engages and inspires the public on the future of flight in order to increase employability within the sustainable aviation sector. Wahab enjoyed this experience to communicate and present, learn about sustainability in helicopter aid and saving lives. 

Wahab gives his views on his time at college: “I have enjoyed my time at Connell because the teachers really helped me in my subjects and gave me the confidence to progress. I will miss my teachers the most because they have encouraged me to work hard and also to be happy and energetic. Teachers and students are like friends here.

“I would recommend Connell to someone because it is small and not too overwhelming and the teachers support you. Teachers here don’t just see you as a grade, but they value you as a human being and help you to get to where you want to go. A level is different to GCSE, it is much harder and you have to put in a lot of effort to learn the content. Always stay humble and open to learning new things every day.”

Catherine Radcliffe, Chemistry Subject Lead, said: “Wahab is one of the most motivated and determined young people I have ever had the opportunity to teach. His unwavering thirst for knowledge is something to be in awe of, and his striving for success will see him go far. That is, as long as he learns to take his time with things, not everything can be known instantly; some things take time to learn. Wahab is a kind and wonderful young man who will only ever brighten the day of those he engages with. I wish him all the very best for all the adventures that life has in store for him.”

Zion lives in Little Hulton and came to Connell from The Albion Academy, which is based in Pendleton in Salford. He studied A Level Media Studies, BTEC Business and BTEC Computing.

Zion is going to study BSc (Hons) Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence at the University of Huddersfield. He would like to have a career afterwards in Software Engineering. 

Zion took part in lots of work experience, such as with BAM, virtually with JP Morgan and via the PlayStation Career Pathways Program Summer School at MMU’s School of Digital Arts. He was also on the Student Council and a Student Ambassador.

Zion gives his views on his time at college: “Connell is a place where you can succeed really easily as you’re provided with lots of opportunities, such as work experience. Most importantly, as long as you focus and put effort in you are more or less guaranteed to succeed. It’s also a friendly environment.“

Lauren Fell, Curriculum Lead of Media Studies, said: “Zion is a creative and inquisitive student who focuses on the details. He enjoys photography and being in front of the camera.”

Erika lives on the Clayton/Beswick border and joined Connell from our partner Trust school, Co-op Academy North Manchester. She studied Triple Business BTEC.

Erika has accepted a place at UCLan (the University of Central Lancashire) to study the three-year BA (Hons) Business and HR Management course after receiving D*, D*, D. After graduating, she would like to work in HR in the education sector in the UK. 

Erika has taken part in two enrichment classes. Sygnature: an immersive experience where students transform their perceptions of sustainability and its importance in life and commerce. And, LGBTQ+ Club: discussions on how the community is perceived, and what changes can be made at Connell to improve comfort for LGBTQ+ individuals.

Erika volunteered as a Student Ambassador and was awarded Ambassador of the Year in the year-end awards, with one nomination stating: “She has attended the most interview evenings and stayed until the very end - always smiling!”

Erika, on her time at college, said: “I have enjoyed every second at Connell. College was a turning point for me. I often worried I wasn’t doing enough or that everything I did would end in failure, but the support and staff at Connell greatly helped me achieve my goals and grow as a person. I enjoyed my studies, especially BTEC Business, which helped me discover my passion for human resources, culture, diversity, and inclusion. 

“I made lots of good memories, and all my teachers have been the perfect role models, with many supporting me during difficult times. I will miss being able to communicate so openly and freely with any person in college. I’m not sure where life would have taken me if I’d not gone to Connell, but coming here was the best decision I ever made.” 

Daniel Bellis, Business Teacher, said: “Erika is a wonderful example of a student with drive, she consistently acts as an example to her peers and sets the standard for work expected. While I have not seen her progression since first year, I can definitely say that the standard she has set has been a benchmark for other students and I am immensely proud of her achievements. Erika is someone who genuinely wants to be the best version of herself, whether it be through volunteering for college events, helping other students, or seeking out help when it is needed and giving 100% with everything she does.”

Lily lives in Hyde and joined Connell from Alder Community High School (Hyde). She studied Triple BTEC Sport, Coaching and Development and got D*DD.

Lily has accepted a one-year scholarship with Manchester City Women's Football Club (MCWFC). She currently trains with the team twice a week, but will join full-time and mirror their training schedule. At the end of the year, Lily would like to get a professional contract with the club. If unsuccessful, she would look at getting her football coaching badges or becoming a physical trainer. 

Lily won our Sportswoman of the Year award at our end of year awards due to her involvement with MCWFC first team and being picked to represent England Women’s Under-19s in some recent competitions. 

Lily has volunteered by doing some football coaching with local primary schools inside Manchester City’s indoor dome. And has been refereeing some local primary school matches too.

Lily, on her time at college, said: “I have really enjoyed my time at Connell because I made friends for life and enjoyed all the opportunities college offered. The nutrition module was the most interesting thing I learnt about. My favourite memory is the amount of different sports that I could play within the practical element of my course. The thing I will miss most about college is the different opportunities to take part in alongside your studies.”

Ryan Usher, BTEC Sport Tutor, said: “Lily has been the perfect example of an exceptional and dedicated student athlete. It’s not easy to balance a busy and demanding football schedule alongside a Triple BTEC course. Lily now joins a list of a number of girls from Connell who have progressed into the MCWFC first team. All of our staff are really proud of her and wish her the best of luck in the future.”

Maci lives in Droylsden and came to Connell from Droylsden Academy. She studied Triple Sport and Exercise Science BTEC. 

Maci got Triple D* and has accepted an offer to study the four-year Chiropractic MSci (Hons) degree at Teesside University - becoming the first Connell student to enrol on a chiropractic course.

Chiropractic is a healthcare profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health.

When Maci graduates, she would like to go and work in New Zealand - the university has contacts over there and is able to support the transition.

Maci has enjoyed her time at Connell, taking part in volleyball enrichment; work experience shadowing a physio; completing a first aid course at Manchester Institute of Health and Performance; and has volunteered refereeing children’s tournaments at Manchester City Football Club.

Maci on her time at college, said: “I would highly recommend Connell as you are greeted with a friendly and welcoming environment each day, as well as being provided with an impeccable support system. At Connell, the teachers ensure you and your work are prioritised, helping to optimise your progress and future achievements.”

Erin Rosenberg, Director of Next Steps and Teacher of PE, said: “Maci has exemplified the true spirit of academic excellence and dedication throughout her college journey. Her outstanding grades, willingness to seize every opportunity, and perfect attendance are a testament to her hard work and determination. As she embarks on her next chapter to become a chiropractor, we are confident that her exceptional skills and commitment will continue to lead her to success. Congratulations, Maci, on all your achievements!’

Mariia lives in Old Trafford but grew up and studied in Kyiv, Ukraine, where she was studying prior to the Russian invasion and joining Connell.

Mariia's A Level results: Business Studies A*, Media Studies A, and Psychology A. She's accepted a place to study media at UCL in London. She wanted to study in London as ‘media is about connections’ and it’s one of the most connected cities. She has a website portfolio to showcase her media experience. 

Mariia became interested in media through her other passion: dancing. She was part of the Light Balance dance troupe that came third in the America’s Got Talent: All-Stars show in 2023.

Mariia has really enjoyed her time at Connell and the supportive staff. She has taken part in the Art Society and Cinema Society enrichment classes, and volunteered at Culture Day. She is currently looking for internships this summer in Manchester and London, with St Luke's London, a creative agency, being one potential destination. 

Mariia, on her time at Connell, said: “I have really enjoyed my time at Connell because of the incredible support from the staff and teachers. They were always ready to help and often worked overtime to ensure I had the resources and guidance I needed. This was extremely important to me, especially because of my sudden move to the UK. I will miss Connell’s dedicated staff who go above and beyond for their students. I would definitely recommend this college to a younger sibling because of its supportive and nurturing environment.” 

Jon Green, Business Teacher, said: “Mariia has excelled in A Level Business, consistently producing excellent work and always goes above and beyond with her independent work. Class debates and discussions regularly feature high-level input from Mariia. Even when she has taken time out for work experience placements, she has managed to keep on top of her work and makes sure that she is prepared to succeed in her next assessment.”

Sam lives in Gorton and joined Connell from Wright Robinson College (Gorton). He studied Triple Business BTEC and he got D*, D*, D.

Sam has accepted an offer from Manchester Metropolitan University to study the three-year BSc (Hons) Banking and Finance degree. After graduating, he would like to get a job as a Carbon Accountant (when it's created) in Manchester. 

In our end of year awards, Sam won the Shining Star award with some of the nomination text stating: ‘outstanding student who represents the college superbly well at events,’ ‘consistently resilient and epitomises all of our Co-op values,’ and ‘ he takes advantage of all work experience opportunities, he’s a role model to his classmates.’

Sam has taken part in Duke of Edinburgh enrichment and has been an active volunteer at the Salvation Army in Openshaw since January 2023, which he saw advertised in college. He was also a founding member of Connell’s LGBTQ club, Eco literacy Champion and Subject ambassador. 

Sam, on his time at college, said: “I have really enjoyed my time at Connell because every day I got to try something new and through my teachers’ guidance and support, I was able to venture out of my comfort zone and become the person I am today. The teaching is sublime; they made every lesson entertaining and unique. The most interesting thing I learnt about was the importance of sustainability and how it must be considered in all aspects of business. 

“The support and accommodation from both the wellbeing team and staff can only be described with one word “outstanding”. I do not believe I would have been able to accomplish so much and have a great experience without their continuous guidance. My favourite memory about my time at Connell is going to an eco meeting and randomly being asked if I would like to see the college bees. I was then putting on a beekeeping suit and stood on the roof holding a beehive before I knew it. This level of opportunity and unexpectedness is why I loved my time at Connell!”

Adam Woodley, Teacher of Business and Sport, said: “Everything Sam touches turns to gold and this is simply due to the fact that he puts so much effort into everything he does. He says yes to every opportunity presented to him and is leaving Connell with more experience of the workplace than most university students have when they graduate. He is not afraid of a challenge and is always keen to support other people. I foresee that he will go on to have a very successful career and will one day be shaking hands with the likes of Alan Sugar.”
