Enrolment Information

This webpage contains 2023 enrolment information. We'll update it with 2024 information and dates by June 2024.

All the information that you need to be able to enrol with us can be found on this webpage. Please read it carefully, so you know exactly what you need to do and what to expect at enrolment.

Enrolment Days

Thursday 24 August - 10am-3pm

  • A Level courses
  • Blended courses (single BTECs and A Levels)

Friday 25 August - 10am-3pm

  • Triple BTEC courses
  • Double BTEC courses (with a single BTEC or A Level)

Tuesday 29 August - 10am-2pm

  • Open Enrolment: new applicants are welcome to attend college, we have limited spaces remaining. Please check our course list and entry requirements.

Wednesday 30 August onwards

  • Open Enrolment Waiting List: Connell is currently full for September 2023, so we're operating a waiting list. Please fill in this form and we'll contact you if a place becomes available. If you do not hear from us by Friday 8 September, it'll unfortunately mean we do not have a place for you.

You need to bring to enrolment:

  • GCSE statement of results including ULN/UCI numbers (you’ll receive these from your school on results day).
  • ID (UK passport, UK provisional driving licence, UK or BOTC birth certificate and UK residency permit with indefinite leave to remain, EU passport [if you moved to the UK before December 2020]).
  • Two next of kin details.
  • Students with foreign results must purchase a UKENIC Statement of Comparability before we will be able to enrol you.

Entry Requirements

You will only be able to enrol with us if you meet our minimum entry requirements, and any additional requirements for your chosen course. Our minimum requirements are:

  • At least five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including English Language and Maths.
  • Some courses have higher requirements, so please check our prospectus or course pages on our website for specific requirements.
  • L2 BTECs at Distinction level may be considered if they are directly related to your L3 course.
  • Students with foreign results must purchase a UKENIC Statement of Comparability before we will be able to enrol you.

Getting to Connell

There’s limited parking onsite at Connell (access via Wilson Street, use this postcode: M11 2AZ for sat navs). You can also park for free at the East Manchester Leisure Centre, and walk across the crossing on Alan Turing Way to our main entrance. Our nearest Metrolink stop is Velopark (approx three minute walk), and there are bus stops on Alan Turing Way and Ashton Old Road.

Queuing

You may be queuing to get into enrol, so please bring an umbrella in case it rains. We'll try to keep the queues moving as quickly as possible, but due to the number of students enrolling each day, there may be bottlenecks. To avoid this, please ensure you attend enrolment on the day and time you've been allocated, as we have spaced students out across the two days. Once you’ve signed in, you’ll get the opportunity to have some refreshments and sit down before continuing the enrolment process.

We can’t wait to see you at enrolment and officially welcome you to Connell.

FAQs

What happens if I don’t get the grades I need for my chosen course?
You won’t be able to enrol on that course, but if you achieve our minimum requirements, we may be able to offer you a place on something else. Please be aware that if you need to change from an A Level to a BTEC course, you will need to come to the Friday enrolment.

I am away over the enrolment days, can I still enrol?
If you are away on one of the days, we may be able to enrol you on the other day - please email us as soon as you know, and we can see if this is possible for you. Unfortunately, we are not able to save spaces for any students who are away on the enrolment days, unless there are exceptional circumstances (please note that holidays are not exceptional circumstances - the GCSE Results Day date has been published for over a year).

I have my GCSE results on my phone, is this okay?
Ideally, we need you to bring in the paper statement so we can take a copy. If your school emailed them to you, we will need to see the official statement on your phone and you will need to print it out when you get here as part of the process.

What ID can I bring?
We accept UK passports, UK provisional driving licences, UK or BOTC birth certificates. We also accept UK residency permits with indefinite leave to remain. If you do not have any of these, please get in touch with us before enrolment and we can advise you what else you can use as ID. We can only accept an EU passport if you moved to the UK before December 2020.

My passport has expired, can I still bring it?
Yes, an expired passport is fine as we can still read your name and date of birth.

Who are my next of kin?
Next of kin are usually a parent or carer. We’re legally required to have two contacts for our students. If you do not have two parents or carers that we can use, you can use any family member over the age of 18 who lives in the UK, or a friend or neighbour over the age of 18, who you would like us to contact in case of emergency.

What details do I need for my next of kin?
We need their name, relationship to you, phone number and email address.

When is the first day of term?
You will need to be available from Tuesday 5 September. You will be told your official start date when you enrol.

I will be away for the start of term, what do I do?
All students are expected to be available to start college from Tuesday 5 September. If you won’t be here, you will need to let us know this when you come to enrol. We may not be able to hold your place in this case, so it’s important that you try to be here if you can. We are oversubscribed, and have a long waiting list, so students who do not turn up on their first day will have their place reviewed and may be withdrawn, so we can give their place to a student who is here.
